Pull my trans also?

Postby Greatwhitenorth » Fri Sep 22, 2017 7:49 am

Hi, I've got a quick question on pulling the 350 out of my 89 blazer. Need to swap rear main seal and oil pan gasket so I'm going to put the engine on the stand for a few days. Just wondering am I better off trying to pull the trans out with the engine? Or unbolt and just pick the engine out? Any advice is much appreciated.

Remove the front clip and pull it all out together.

I take them out together without pulling the front clip,

Me too. You need to put a serious angle on the engine trans and make sure you put a yoke/plug in the trans output shaft, but other than that, relatively straight forward. If you can get the driver-side upper bellhousing bolt, then you could probably remove the engine without the trans. Good luck with that.

Thanks for the replies. I think I might get away with taking transfer case off and removing the rad support etc, leaving the trans attached. I'd really like to leave my fenders and such alone. Should give me enough room to lean it and bring it out forward?

No need to pull the core support, just remove the transfer case and use an engine tilter, it will come right out,
