Bell housing help

Postby Wisconsinbuilder » Sun Dec 18, 2011 9:48 pm

OK I'm helping a buddy do a swap in two weeks he has a 92 2.8 ....OK he has a 350tbi computer and the wire harness...the truck the motor and everything came out of was a 92 5speed....so can I use the 350truck bell housing and bolt up the 2.8 tranny....or is there a bellhousing that will combine the two??? My brother who is a master mechanic says it should but he fixes cars he don't build thanks guys

I doubt the bellhousing would swap over, the 2.8 should have a T5 behind it and the fullsize probably has a nv3500. I don't think the trans side of the bellhousing would have the same pattern and it's unlikely the depth would be right either considering the clutchs were moderately different in size. A 2.8 is a 60 degree motor where as the 350 is a 90 degree. If you had a 5 spd from a 4.3 that should bolt up. Someone else may know for sure but I wouldn't count on it swapping over. I would try to keep the trans behind the 350 that came behind it. May have to mod the trans crossmember and shorten the drive shaft (diff yoke too) but the T5's are not a long term solution.

If it did bolt up, the 2.hate trans wouldn't hold up, but the 5 speed from the full size should fit, and would definitely bolt up. What type exhaust are you planning? Room for the slave and/or hydraulic hose will be a bit of challenge with headers. :? 8)

Use a nv3500 from the full-size or get one out of a 4.3 s10. I have a rebuilt one for sale if interested.
The full-size uses a different trans crossmember but one from a s10 is pretty much a direct bolt in.

Future mods LS1 front brakes, frame stiffening, camaro 3.4 block with 3400 pistons, ported 3500 top end and undecided on the cam. Want to keep the motor obdII so that will be fun. Also gonna run a camaro t5. After all the kinks are worked out I might screw it up again and add a hair dryer.
