Can you keep 4x4 with a v8 swap?

Postby bigjoe25 » Wed Jan 18, 2017 1:40 pm

I don't have a s10/blazer yet but there is a good condition Jimmy v6 manual trans 4x4 near me for cheap. I'm always wanting more power. Anyway I'm a freakin newbie (I most likely would have to pay a shop to do the swap) and I was wondering if I could keep 4x4 if I swapped in a v8? If I recall a 350 will bolt up to the t5 (I think its a t5) trans in the jimmy right?

I just want to know if it's possible to keep 4x4 with a 350. If not, I may as well start off with a 2wd truck.

Yes you can keep the 4x4. Will need to use manifolds instead of headers and relocate oil filter. If it's a 4.3 truck it will be easier

Hello,
Pardon me if this is a thread hijack or if I should post this separately. I saw the OP title and thought this would be a good place for my question.

I have a '92 Sonoma-4.3(non vortec)5sp-4x4.
I am long term (in the next year or so) planning the 4.3 for a 350 swap.
My question is this,
Can I EASILY ditch the vacuum / electrical actuated 4x4 gear, and put in a real transmission and transfer case with a lever on the floor rather than the weak push button actuator? Or is that more.of a hastle than it's worth? I would prefer the five speed rather than switching to an auto.

Thanks for any help.!!!

EDIT TO SAY:
I am cross posting this to the 4x4/AWD section too. Sorry for the thread hijack.
