1st Gen Rear Rim/Tire size

Postby 85V8S10 » Mon Apr 17, 2017 10:12 am

I have a 1985 S-10 extended cab. it's lowered 2" front and rear. The rear end is completely stock, nothing has been changed on it besides adding lowering blocks. I've been trying to read around to try and find the biggest wheel and tire setup without it rubbing or sticking out. I'm mostly finding stuff about 2nd gens or the trucks with a 6" rear drop. I contacted Summit Technical support and they told me the biggest I can put on the rear was a 205/70/15. I know that's not right because I have bigger on it now. What are you guys running with a stock setup? I've seen you can get up to a 15x10 with a 5.5" b.s. but I'm not seeing a lot of pictures with the 1st gens so I don't know how close it is to everything. I would like to run drag radials.

Thanks a lot for any help. I appreciate it

I have 275/60/15s on the rear with 2" drop springs. I'm not near tucking yet but it would clear if I went lower.

15x8" wheels with 5.5" bs. I got pictures somewhere

The issue I was having was I wasn't sure if I wanted to lower it anymore and I didn't want too wide of a tire so it stuck out. If you say yours would clear if you lowered it more I think I'll go with the 15x8 instead of the 10. By chance what size are you running up front?

I'd have to look. I think they are 15×4 or 15x5. The tires on the front are passenger car tires that were super cheap and just place holders til I get some good tires up front.

I have the 2" drop split mono leaf. I'd like to go an inch lower but might be looking at sliders for the rear leafs if I go that far

Let me know how those nitto's work for you ... mine use to stick like glue.. but I put a bigger carb on last week and was able to break them loose in first on 7lbs of boost... I then took it out for a run and I turned them a little bit in 2nd.. only for a second.. then I heard what sounded like a bunch of marbles coming from my engine compartment so I got out of it.. made it home but now I have a rough idle issue.. so I either took something out in the mighty 305 or maybe lost a plug.. I hope its a plug.. LOL

I won't be able to fully hit the tires until I get the 9" rear built and installed.
