Wheels/Tires on Uncut 8.8

Postby mixman98 » Sat Feb 25, 2017 9:07 am

I have a first Gen S10 Pickup 2WD and have a 8.8 disc rear that I'm going to install uncut for now. I was given a set of 15x8 rally wheels with 4.5 backspace that have 275/60/15's on the rim. Will these work on the uncut rear, or will they stick out too far from the wheel well? If so, what's the widest tire I can go with on the uncut rear?

It's really not the width of the tire so much as where the backspacing puts it, I would guess with a 15x8 with 4.5" of BS, you're not going to find a tire that fits that rim that won't either stick out, or hit the top of the fender, or both. :? 8)

If I have the 3" taken off of the long side, will I be able to use that wheel/tire combo Rick?

That's what I'll do then. Just need to decide if I'm gonna narrow it myself or not. Not sure if a sawzall or grinder will give me a straight enough cut or not. Thanks Rick

I use a pipe cutter to cut a perfect groove to follow, then use a portable bandsaw to cut the housing. You might be able to rent the pipe cutter and bandsaw for a pretty reasonable price. 8)

Thanks for the tips Rick. Any tips for the hime mechanic to assure the shortened piece gets welded back straight?
