what tire size should i look for?

Postby sphere478 » Mon Mar 17, 2014 8:38 pm

I'm running 16" camaro wheels (10" wide?) anyone have suggestions on a aftermarket tire that will have a little more meat on the ground?

245s is the widest you'll find, (trust me, I've been looking hard), except for the BFG P295/50/16 Drag Radials, or some tall mud tires. The BFG D/Rs work AWESOME, but only lasted about 7 months behind my lead foot. I liked the BFG P295/50/16 street tires, but they are discontinued, I haven't even been able to find any new old stock, as a result, I'm contemplating changing wheels, at least the rear ones, either back to 15s, or maybe up to 17s. I'm stuck with 16s or bigger up front due to the LS brakes. :? 8)

That's the exact reason I went with 15" wheels. Tire selection is great (at least for the time being)

Tire sizing is as follows...
The first number is tread width in millimeters.
The second number is sidewall height; this number is percent of tread width.
The last number is rim size.
So as an example 235/55R16 =
235mm wide tread (9.251 inches)
The sidewall is 55% of 235mm so that is 129.25mm tall sidewall (5.0885 inches)
Then from there you can figure out total height of the tire; sidewall of 5.0885" times 2 = 10.177" plus the rim at 16" = 26.177" tall.

These are 255-50-16 and they are still a 26" tall tire. They are BFG g-force tires, they are pretty decent.

You may have the meat on the ground but for drag racing you want the sidewall a 15in wheel will give you unless you're taking fast turns then you want less sidewall aka lower profile tire.

Just an fyi if you're looking for a tire for those purposes etc..

I hate posting with my phone.

It all really depends on your driving habits and use of the truck. Just find a good street tire that can handle the off road and wont be too wide that will eat in to your mpg's.
