Best fitting stock y pipe for 3rd gen Camaro manifolds

Postby s10+5 » Mon Jan 01, 2018 12:29 am

Hello happy new year. I want to go to junkyard and find best fitting y pipe for cheap. 40 percent off tomorrow. So has any one had good luck with any particular car or truck y pipe? Thanks. Yes I know I can have muffler shop make it. But it's not registered yet and I want to quiet it down to just go around the block for now. Thanks

If I remember right, some have used the 4.3 Y manifold from an S10 or blazer. Might just have to measure and go find whats closest.

I went to wrecking yard today. Found a tbi Camaro with the y pipe already unbolted. I just needed to cut. Got it for a whopping $7! I didn't see any 4.3 s10's. I'll post results when I work on it. Thanks for the reply. I'll take a look at the 4.3 option.

Ah, the factory "T" y-pipe!

Did your manifolds have that valve on them? Not sure if they were on all or not. Just something to think about if they y-pipe doesn't fit just right.

when i pulled the manifolds they had the spacer on passenger side, like a half donut made of metal. then when i pulled the y pipe it had the heat riser valve and came with it. both were tbi cars. have you ever used the camaro y pipe, i read an article on hod rod mag sten, that they used a factory y pipe but never mentioned modifying it so i hope it works.

I haven't used it, but it should work.

I assume you are building a fairly stockish truck?

So third gen y does not fit. I even cut the down pipes off, beat on them some time later I gave up and decided to just wait and take it t of the shop

I think my s10 had the original y-pipe from the 85 camero / firebird that the 305 came out of. They just extended it after the y part and stuck a single flow bastard on it.

it may work on passenger side, but the drivers side needed to be flattened to clear the frame, it could go over the oil filter and barely clear it if the filter is in stock location. an offset Vette or lt1 filter mount would help a lot. but if I'm visiting the shop anyway, ill cut my losses and just have them make them up

Ordered the filter relocation mount off eBay. I went to the junkyard and got another driver side pipe. I'm going to try again. I'll post pics when finished.
