Heddman shorties flipped for fender exit

Postby warwagon74 » Thu Nov 10, 2016 3:53 pm

I have searched for hours and haven't found a clear answer or any pics. Can I flip my shorties to create fender exit headers? What all is needed to accommodate such a task? Problems? All pics and info greatly appreciated.

I think you will have issues with front accessories. Give it a try and see. You can get fender exit headers

Only thing I think will interfere will be alternator but I can move that. Any suggestions on fender exit headers? Eventually I will end up buying some but I thought for this one I would try it the easy route if it is easy. Just needing some sort of heads-up and pics or comments on things to look out for

Steering shaft could be another issue. What front accessories and mounts will be used? Just a drag truck? Any future power adders?

Strictly drag. Only have alt up front. No ps. Was hoping someone has done this and would have pics.

Track only?

I'm running these... http://www.schoenfeldheaders.com/street-stock.html Part number for S-10 specific is 198VA

They will require some modification to the collectors to get them outside the engine bay.

Have them mounted normal right now. Just cant stand having plug wires and starter so close. No future power adders.

Oh... they do fit with a stock chassis as well.

The part number I posted is modified for the number 7 tube to clear the S-10 steering column.

Almost forgot... these are 1.75" stepped up to 1.875" with a 3.5" collector.

I see you have angle plugs. Doesn't look like a straight plug would work on those. They look awesome though.

Spark plug angle has nothing to do with fitment on these headers... the header tubes sweep UP from the ports... then forward. There is a ton of room for plug access.

So have you tried it yet? Any pics if you did? I was going to try the schoenfield set, but if this works i can just flip my current shorties and tube the exhaust out wherever i want.

So before I ordered a set of the premaid ones, I gave this a shot...PERFECT! Worked better than I could have hoped. Flipped the headers, ran to the local meineke (after a lot, and a lot of measuring) and had them bend and weld up some exit tubing to finish it off. I couldnt be happier with it.

A very tempting thought, i admit to having alot lately. But the plan currently is to spray the sh*t out of this pile and see where we land. Ive always had bottle cars, so I know it, plus like everybody else I'm stubborn and don't want to change.

Theyre not perfect, but they will do the job needed. And since I already had shorty heddmans on the truck, it cost me $50 at a local meineke to have the exits bent/welded together. The trim rings cost $5 a piece, so in total I spent $60 compared to the $370 plus shipping I almost spent on the shoenfield set. I'm gunna put a check on the win column for this one! 8)
