1995 CPI run 2 computers?

Postby Mater » Wed Jun 28, 2017 10:13 pm

ok i have a 95 jimmy with the vin w cpi and auto trans. the 4.3 is blown with a warped block and was given a free TBI 305 from a 95 1500

question to retain most of the factory features like cruise, abs, a/c and the auto trans can i just have the factory computer run all that and just have a obd1 computer run just the engine?

if this has been answered before sorry tried searching but did not find any thing

I can"t answer all your questions but do know that your transmission won't work with a setup like that. Depending on what transmission you have you will either need to get a stand alone computer(4l60) or buy or build a conversion lockup kit for a 700r4. I would think that you would have a 4l60 in a 95 though. Last time I looked a few years ago stand alone computer was about $500 but not sure if there is a cheaper solution or not. I put 4l60 into the search and a bunch of useful threads came up. You can also put 4l60 not shifting and even better info came up.
Hope that helps a little. :)

He can make it work if it's an auto TBI computer IIRC

Yeah almost a direct swap going from 4.3 tbi to sbc tbi but the CPI he has will make it a little more difficult. Will need to change fuel pump and then figure out the PCM and throttle cable then should be good from there.

i'll not be using the tbi set of the enigne i have a tpi intake that has been collecting dust i was going to put on it and use an adjustable regulator to bring it down to 60psi

any way found my answer just need the throttle position sensor signal, an engine coolant temp signal, a tach signal from a distributor (i will use a HEI), and the vehicle speed output from the trans

this took for ever to find

TPI to TPI you are set. Shouldn't need to regulate the fuel down unless the sbc manifold isnt regulated like the 4.3 is. Either way it wouldn't hurt to have a bypass regulator.

that was my thought and the adjustable regulators are not that expensive and good insurance as i decided to use a megasqurt system. going to use the basically stock sbc to learn on so i can use it on my 75 grand ams 455 to add fuel injection to that and maybe even spark control
