Sounds like short/fault in switch or chaffed/cracked wiring

My old 91 switch doesn't go into AUX anymore - just on or off

The turn signal and brake use the same wire.

o gotcha , so does the power source come from the turn signal flasher , what I'm saying is does it go from the brake switch or preasure switch through the flasher then to the lights

Power comes from the stop lamp fuse, to the brake lamp switch, then to the turn signal switch, then to the stop/turn signal element in the bulbs, 8)

The rear bulb is a double bulb, one element for the running lights and one element for the turn and brake light. The turn and brake use the same element.

There was also a known fault with 91 (& other year??) rear left sockets - clean well & use dielectric grease

The bulb would burn out often - or maybe pop a fuse in some cases

Depends on what you're using for ignition?

Hey Buddy,

I saw your wiring diagrams. They sure are helpful. I hope you are still on here. I have a question for your expert advice. I have a 91 S-10 with a V-8 swap. The truck came with a V-6. The previous owner "by passed" the computer. I saw some fried wires next to the passenger header leading back to the computer. My question is I am wanting to remove these wires and want my gauges to work properly, ie speedometer (which quit working) and the fuel gauge which never worked, Can I do this? Also is the speedometer sensor located in the computer or the 700r4?

Thanks

Joe

The speedo sender, (VSS or Vehicle Speed Sensor), is in the trans, two wires, (light green/black and purple/white) go from the trans to the DRAC (Digital Ratio Controller Adapter), then from the DRAC to the Speedo. That part will still work without the computer as long as the wires are intact. Your gauge wiring all goes through the driver's side bulkhead connectors. 8)

Thanks, was just able to read your reply. I really appreciate it. I was noticing that the wiring harness going through the firewall on the passenger side has fried from the heat of the headers, I am hoping I can salvage the DRAC.

The DRAC is kinda piggybacked onto the computer in your (and my) year trucks, so it's inside, and the wiring shouldn't be too hard to find and repair. 8)

I have a 90 s10 and I recently put a 383 with mass air tpi in.the engine was taken out of another s10 that never hit the street.it was just fired long enough to see that it was ok.mine is a Durango and had every option so there are tons of wires everywhere.mine originally had a 4.3 tbi.the 383 has a painless wiring harness on it which is actually adding even more to my confusion.should I be eliminating everything coming from the firewall except the starter circuit?should I get rid of almost everything electrical that was used on the tbi?i don't care about emmisions and already blocked off the egr when I had the runners off.
I thought I could do this but now I'm thinking I need someone knowledgeable about this to come and sort it out.
