T56 center console

Postby Alterian » Wed Mar 22, 2017 3:04 pm

I know the typical console to use is the auto blazer console. Just curious if anyone had tried the console from the H3?

Project: 96 Cavalier console with a B&M Pro Ratchet shifter

In case it hasn't been mentioned to you yet, there is a HUGE receptacle of info at the top of each forum section, usually labeled
"Useful Forum Links (Stickies)". In them are the hyperlinks to all the very best threads/info on that particular forum section, pretty much every forum section has them, and they are constantly updated as new threads and/or more info is added. 8)

And I looked at those stickies and nothing had been mentioned about the H3 console. I don't care for the cavalier or blazer consoles. So thats why I asked if anyone had tried that one

Thanks, even after all this time, I still like it. I've not been driving the truck that much lately, got a 93 Miata for a DD now, which is a blast to drive, but every time I get back in my truck, I'm impressed all over again how well it does everything, and how much fun it is to drive, 8)

Put a turbo on the Miata... have tons of them running around here with turbo kits.

The Miata is definitely getting a turbo, but it's also getting an engine swap.....to what, I'm not sure yet, I may be trading my race kart on Sunday for a rollover crashed 99 Miata, which gets me a bigger motor, 1.8 vs 1.6, (rod bearing making noise), stronger trans, bigger brakes, stronger differential, axles, and driveshaft that all bolt in. The engine swap candidates are the 1.8, possibly a 2.8 Chevy with a T5, (which would be the easiest V6 swap), or, the most intriguing possibility, a Ford/Mazda DOHC 3.0, AKA Duratec 3.0 with a T5, but no matter what, it will be turboed. If anyone has ever heard that Duratec 3.0 with a nice exhaust system, you'll know why it's a candidate...it's around 200 hp stock, and it doesn't growl, it howls, (like an exotic engine), and it's "Mazda". The goal will be 300~325 hp in a totally reliable, daily driver capable package. 8)

The Ford based one is Monster Miata, (they are here in Florida), there's also K-Miata, (Honda swap), the 2.0 Ecotec, the LS swap is VERY common now too. A V8 swap would accomplish way more than one of my goals, but none of the rest. :? 8)

There is a guy that's local that has a front subframe that's already set up for a 1JZ or 2JZ, but there again, I want to keep the overall balance of the car the same or better, I even thought about a motorcycle engine. A Busa motor makes almost 200 hp stock, with a turbo, it would easily meet the power goal. 8)

What about a 3800 v6 from a camaro? T-5's bolt to those and have seen some big numbers when they are turboed. And you get to stay GM, thats a plus right? :boink:

I've seen to many blown up 3800s, it doesn't inspire that much confidence, plus they aren't all that light either. My HP goal is only about 300 to 325, and any decent V6 will be able to make that or more with a turbo, but it's pretty much imperative that the motor be as light or lighter than the stock 1.6, or at least be short enough to move engine weight back to keep the almost perfect front/rear weight bias, or maybe even make it better. A safe 6500 to 7000 rpm redline would be nice too, which the Duratec 3.0 has. Really the only thing that keeps the 3.0 from being a slam dunk is the lack of a readily available RWD bell housing, there are some available, but they are almost a grand.......no can do captain, it's against my religion to spend that much on such a simple item.

Ok, how about a northstar V8? shares gm's 60 degree bolt pattern for the trans, its light with aluminum block and heads, and its 300hp out of the box. :boobies:

Sorry, NOBODY is building a motor for me but ME. The 3.8 is too heavy for the combo. HP is not the important part, 300-325, with a 7K redline, is plenty. The F/R weight bias is the important part. 8)
