The Miata is definitely getting a turbo, but it's also getting an engine swap.....to what, I'm not sure yet, I may be trading my race kart on Sunday for a rollover crashed 99 Miata, which gets me a bigger motor, 1.8 vs 1.6, (rod bearing making noise), stronger trans, bigger brakes, stronger differential, axles, and driveshaft that all bolt in. The engine swap candidates are the 1.8, possibly a 2.8 Chevy with a T5, (which would be the easiest V6 swap), or, the most intriguing possibility, a Ford/Mazda DOHC 3.0, AKA Duratec 3.0 with a T5, but no matter what, it will be turboed. If anyone has ever heard that Duratec 3.0 with a nice exhaust system, you'll know why it's a candidate...it's around 200 hp stock, and it doesn't growl, it howls, (like an exotic engine), and it's "Mazda". The goal will be 300~325 hp in a totally reliable, daily driver capable package.
