S10 frame interchangability

Postby pekrewrek » Fri Jan 19, 2018 4:12 pm

Hello there everyone o/
Sorry to bother you - that's probably the most infamous question on s10-related forums, still...

There's lotsa threads abount swapping S10\S15 1gen body onto 2gen frame and vice verca. But all of those are about trucks (i.e. pickups?). But their frames have lots of differences from the blazer\jimmy ones (SUV frames?). And I couldn't find ANY info on this kind of swap\interchangeability. I know that if you know how to grind & weld - you can even put a water bicycle onto that frame, but what I do wonder is this: would a 1gen 1991 4x4 Jimmy body fit on a 2gen 199x 4x4 Blazer\Jimmy frame without welding (i.e. mounting points should be on exact same positions)? I asked '199x' because I've read somewhere that after a 1997 there were some drastic changes in frame design and they sure won't fit (but that's probably related to S10 pickups again).

ALSO, there are some blueprints of 2gen frame sizes on the net, but none for the 1gen. I wonder if they exist at all...

Welcome!

1st to 2nd gen would be a huge pain. Its fairly easy to find a good used parts truck for a frame swap.

1st gens are getting extremely hard to find here in my area. If anything just dish out $250 for a parts truck. 2nd gen is plentiful compared to 1st gen

Why are you trying to put an older frame under a newer body?
I will look on my measuring machine tomorrow at work to see what the differences in the years if the older s10 is still on it. Can't post up the spec because of contract but can compare them for you.

Yep. Same here. All the parts have to be shipped from overseas. It takes time and money :)

I want to do the opposite: put an old body on newer frame. But probably it would be easy to just fix my one up...

I've seen that one already. But there's no info on 1gen on that site :(

I looked today on the computer at work and it doesn't have the older s10 specs.
