85 Blazer pics are up more to come

Postby RoadmenWA » Mon Nov 26, 2007 11:16 am

ok so i have been asking questions for about a month and working slowly at getting my swap done and heres some progress i'll post some pics tomorow but heres some text...

its an 85 2dr 2wd transplanting a 68 327 and th350 trans with holley 650 dual feed double pump with torquer2 manifold and hedman s10 conversion headers.

i got the engine installed, tried to build my own custome mounts using 68 camaro frame side mounts and failed miseribly. so i finaly broke down and used the carshop inc ones i had. fought with the damn thing for days trying to move the engine all the way back. but with help from a comealong got it moved back. installed hedman s10 conversion headers awith alot of persuading on the pass side of the fire wall. had a driveline mad at aukeen in kent. that old man does a bitchen job!!!!!
got it all put togeter on sunday and went to fire it up and the floats and the main body on the carb were all skrewed up and leaky so now i'm stuck rebuilding the dual feed double pumper i have.

yea man bought the thing for $500 in january it came dropped and ready to go all i had to do was drive it about a year till the bolts fell out of the flex plate and wedged in the starter then it was time to dump the 2.8 boat anchor and to do my swap.

i picked up the engine and trans off my buddies dad for $250, it was in a 71 nova but ran the casting # and it actualy came in a 68 -69 camaro.

onlyy thing is i don't know how it will run. its supposed to have a mild cam in it but i have never heard it run.

Did your friends dad promise you it will run??? i woulda made him lol... that is a nice set up... as far as you ac box being open I'm going to mold some fiberglass units that will allow you to keep the ac but gove you a lot more room to get the headers in and out... once i get em going i will post a how to on it for everyone to make their own...

Beware of that Flex-a-lite plastic fan if you have less than 1" of clearance, it might flex forward and get into the radiator. 8)

i will keep that in mind i am actualy going to machine about .150" off the spacer and i still have to finish the rad support to move the rad farther forward... hey rick in the future what fan should i use?
like a metal flex fan? yes yes i know the best idea would be to use an electric fan set up with a bitchen thermostatic on off set up....

you can use a electric fan but I have a 14" Metal 10k RPM flex fan on my S10 and don't have any problem with them. You might just need to move your motor back on the mounts if possible

The blazer looks great
have lots of spare sbc parts. Let me know what you need. I even have some ford stuff now :( LOL

As a rule, I prefer a 18" stainless flex fan, usually the 10,000 rpm rating gets you a pretty good one. I do use that plastic Flex-a-lite on lots of stuff, but S10s wind up with too little clearance. I trashed a radiator with one one time, at 7000 it flexes just a bit too much. I made an aluminum stiffener for it, (went in front, kept the blades from flexing forward too much), ran it for a while like that, then it lost a blade, stuck this little chincy aluminum one on it and it ran cool with that one so I left it. I am gonna stick a Taurus fan in front of my 4.3 and see how I like it though, (testing for the fan control unit ya know, ), if it works out well I may keep it in there for the V8 swap. The 4.3 needs all the help it can get, but I don't want to sink any real money in motor mods. 8)

lol i had bought those bags to put on my 54' plymouth but they wouldn't work cause the leafs are mounted different i think with the air lift ride right sure set pump and stuff i spent just a little under $600 thats with a $50 tank from ridetech and the air over leaf mounts. but you can get all of the parts from summit for the same or a little cheaper too. but if you want fancy stuff you have to go with ride tech, or stuff from like airbagit.com. they have some really nice plug and play systems
