anybody beefed up a t-56?

Postby s10studduts01s » Tue Jan 20, 2009 9:05 am

I'm looking at putting a t56 behind the new motor I'm building which should have about 500± ftlbs off the bottle so i need some overkill because stock they are only rated for 450 ftlbs. i just wanted to kno if anybody had tried these guys since they are relatively close to me http://www.tick-performance.com/tickshi ... ges/fbody/ I'm thinking of doing the level two upgrade which should be sufficiant for what I'm going for right?

Who knows, you may have good luck with the stock trans? I pushed 600 foot pounds on a STOCK 700r4, trapping at 112 too lol. Never broke anything

I'm not taking any chances this time...its a toy now not my daily driver

i can probably get them to find the core and do the build for cheaper than i could get a stock one...around here you can only get the swap kit so you have to buy everything from flywheel back, and i don't need all that junk. Plus its all used so you don't kno what kind of shape its in when you buy it.

I'm sure they do good work since Mooresville is like the racing capital of the US lol. i just didnt kno if anybody else on here had tried them.

about the only real upgrades out there that i know of for most of the trans is the upgraded 3rd/4th shift fork, broze shift pads, billet keys for the shift rails, prob some upgraded blocker rings. call the GearBox (734-793-0727), they are on ebay. but they are very easy to deal with and there auctions are pretty much what they charge outside of ebay and you can talk with them and tell them what u want and they will get it for you. i put the upgraded shift fork and shift pads and put all new blocker and friction rings in on mine. was popping out of 3rd and the dog rings were kinda chewed up but not bad. only advice i have if your going to do it is the 5th/6th gear cluster on the main shaft can be a real bear and might need a special puller to get it off. i lucked out and mine came right off. i didnt take any pictures when i did mine or id post them for you. I'm going to go back and lap all the shift collars in and get everything set right. there are two bolts that are a really headache to get lined up right again for the shifter rails.

the trans is only rated to 450lb/ft of torque but then you have to account for how big of a saftey factor the manufacturer is working with.

guys on some of the f body sites say that 700lb/ft is the true limit of a stock t-56.

when i open mine up for the steel 3/4 fork I'm also doing the following

Bronze 1-2 Fork Pads
Bronze 3-4 Fork Pads
OEM 5-6 Fork Pads
OEM Reverse Fork Pads
Billet 3-4 Synchronizer Keys (with upgraded springs)
Carbon Fiber Synchronizer (blocker) Rings
Steel 3-4 Shift Fork
New 1-2 Synchronizer Assembly
New 3-4 Synchronizer Assembly
New Front Seal
New Rear Seal

thats good for 700lb/ft

ive also been kicking around the idea of having the internals mikronited

The two processes are NOT mutually exclusive, in other words, yes, you could do both. 8)
