Suspension upgrades for Street/Strip

Postby ArmyRanger77 » Fri Oct 20, 2017 11:51 pm

My son and I just finish installing a 383 and a TH350 in a 1984 Blazer. It has already been lowered. We are using it for street/strip. Only suspension upgrades is it has been lowered and we have traction bars installed. What are some things we could do to upgrade the suspension for better handling at the track and still be able to drive on the street. Any help will be appreciated. I build engines, but I'm new to suspension-lol.

Spindles up front, blocks in the rear. It rides good on the street; looking to see what upgrades we could make for street/strip.

What springs are in the front? Adjustable front shocks and good rear shocks. Adjust the bars until you launch straight then get the tire pressure right.

Everything looks pretty much like stock. So replace the shocks? What would you recommend?

Speedway upper control arms to lighten the front and these for the front is a good start. 4 cyl springs will work good too.

Ty for the info! This is where I will start. I might bug you again when these upgrades are done. If you ever have an engine question-feel free to ask! I build mostly SBC all the time.

One more quick question; do I need to take my current shocks off now and measure them to match the shocks Jegs have before I order them?

I'm about to order my shocks. One more question: What should the shocks be set at for the street? Front and rear?

I have my fronts at the lightest setting 90/10 I believe and it rides fine. Rears on mine have no setting since they are just drop shocks and don't play as much of a role as the fronts.

Ty! I just ordered them-should be in by Wednesday or Thursday. If you can find out what people are setting there rear shocks at can you let me know? I'll keep you updated. Thanks again!

I imagine the rear are at the middle to stiff setting since they actually see upward force from traction devices but also don't need to move as free as the front.

Yes. Every set up is different so trial and error. At least you have more adjustment to get it right.
