It's in and pretty well done. I drove it to the lake on the weekend. Gas mileage wasn't much worse than my old 2.8. So far my weld job/abortion exhaust manifold has held up. Am driving to work daily and so far she is running like a clock. Next up will be to touch up some rough spots that are starting to come through on the body. Also want to bleed the front brakes but the friggin bleeders are so stuck I'm afraid of breaking them off. Oh, also gotta find the right speedo drive gear. The one in there is the original from the '80 transam and it's about 25 to 30 clicks faster than the speed limit. Don't want a ticket for drivin too slooooooooww. The thing goes like stink. Lots of bottom end tork. Cruised nice on the highway as well. Holds the road much better than the lighter V6. Nice to know you've got the extra power when you need it. Will post some pictures as soon as one of my kids gets batteries for their camera.

I have 2 Grand Prix's sitting in my yard waiting to see pics of your 301 installed lol. Would you do it again? Also how hard was the exhaust routing?

I realize this thread is ancient but If anyone is still following it, I'm curious to see some photos. Especially of the mounts that were designed to mount the engine. I have an 84 S10 with a boat anchor 2.8 and a Pontiac 400 sitting in a parts car behind the house. Since it's going to cost a fortune to rebuild the 2.8 I'd love to just drop the 400 in it. What sort of problems did you find and how did you overcome them. Any photos of the notch you had to create to fit the starter? And were there any problems getting past the steering shaft?
